Small Engine & Machinery Shop Assistant

Shop assistant will work on a variety of equipment for repair and maintenance. The types of equipment serviced are varied: concrete pumps, power trowels, vehicles, etc. The shop assistant position does not have a limited job description, and is expected to:

  • Assist in maintenance of vehicles and equipment

  • Deliver and pick-up parts and/or materials from retailers or the field

  • Follow and carry out instructions

  • Complete paperwork in an orderly and timely manner

  • Protect self and others by following work safe procedures

  • Communicate effectively, be flexible, and discuss and resolve issues

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum level of completed education required – high school or high school equivalent

  • Legally eligible to work in Canada

  • Valid BC driver's license with clean driving record

  • Some mechanical experience and the ability to learn quickly

  • Must be well organized, be able to multitask, and work well under pressure

  • Must have proper personal protective gear (steel-toe boots, hard hat, vest)

  • Full-time position, work overtime as required, occasional Saturdays

  • Strenuous activity and agility is required in the handling of equipment and accessories

Beneficial, but not required:

  • Experience in the concrete industry

  • Level 1 First Aid

Wage:

  • Wage based on experience, but starting at $18 per hour


Pump Operator

A concrete pump operator is responsible for the operation of a truck mounted concrete boom pump. Duties of an operator are as follows:

  • Drive a concrete pump truck to and from construction sites located throughout the Greater Vancouver Area

  • Evaluate the site conditions and set-up the truck appropriately

  • Uses and cares for tools and equipment associated with and including the concrete pump and truck

  • Operates the boom and pump as required to place concrete in the desired locations

  • Loads and unloads concrete pumps and attachments

  • Complies with safety regulations and precautionary measures while operating the concrete pump - protects self and others by following work safe procedures

  • Conducts routine maintenance and repairs to the machinery

  • Various other duties (deliveries, material handling, etc.) to support other business divisions as required

  • Communicates effectively, is flexible, and discusses and resolves issues

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Legally eligible to work in Canada

  • 18 years of age or older

  • Valid BC driver's license - Class 3 with Air brakes or Class 1 - clean driver record

  • Knowledge of Greater Vancouver Area trucking routes

  • Must be mechanically inclined - basic mechanical knowledge/skills

  • Ability to lift objects exceeding 50 lbs (23 kg)

  • Must be detail oriented with attention to cleanliness and care of equipment

  • Willingness to work flexible hours with varying start/finish times including Saturday shifts (at times required to work long hours)

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with customers in a friendly and professional manner

  • Depth perception, hand-eye coordination and a keen awareness for your surroundings are mandatory

  • Must have proper personal protective gear (steel-toe boots, hard hat, protective glasses, vest, gloves)


Concrete Finisher

A concrete finisher smooths and finishes freshly poured concrete, applying curing, or surface treatments, as well as installs, maintains, and restores masonry structures, such as floors, walls, and sidewalks. Further duties are as follows:

  • Drives to and from construction sites located throughout the Greater Vancouver Area

  • Protects self and others by following procedures that are safe

  • Communicates effectively, is flexible, and discusses and resolves issues

  • Uses tools and equipment associated with concrete finishing to:

    • Fill hollows and remove high spots to smooth freshly poured concrete

    • Level top surface of concrete according to grade and depth specifications using straightedge or float

    • Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure surface of concrete

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Legally eligible to work in Canada

  • Access to a vehicle/transportation, as required to travel to and from a variety of job sites around the Greater Vancouver Area

  • Good physical strength and stamina to use proper lifting techniques required to shovel and move heavy wet concrete at times in excess of 25 kilograms

  • Manual dexterity and a good sense of balance

  • Availability and willingness to work flexible hours with varying start/finish times including Saturday shifts - required to work long hours, typically graveyard-like hours

  • Must be able to effectively work within a crew; teamwork skills

  • Must have proper personal protective gear (steel-toe rubber boots, hard hat, protective glasses, vest, glasses)

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience concrete finishing

  • Experience working with a variety of concrete tools (walk-behind and ride-on power trowels, etc.)

  • Level 1 First Aid
